‘Obvious First Time Burner' Katy Perry Tries to Ride Segway at Burning Man

Attention Black Rock City residents, your new neighbor is Katy Perry!

The 30-year-old pop star is attending the 2015 Burning Man arts and music festival, an annual event held in the dusty Black Rock Desert in Nevada.

In a video posted on her Instagram page on Saturday, Perry is seen playing around on a Segway on the sand in front of an art installation, wearing a cream fur coat over a dress, paired with tiny black backpack, a baseball cap, goggles and a handkerchief over her face, a common accessory for Burning Man participants who camp out and party at the makeshift temporary community during the week-long event.

"Obvious first time burner alert," wrote the singer, who slipped off the Segway while riding.

Why the coat? Probably because temperatures in the desert have been dipping down to the mid- to upper-40s at night.

Susan Sarandon, 68, a return Burning Man participant, also posted on her Instagram page several photos from the event.

During the festival, a wooden effigy of the "Man" is burned. This year, many participants took the opportunity to memorialize Timothy Leary, a famous psychologist and LSD advocate who died at age 75 in 1996. On Saturday, Sarandon, one of his friends, led a march while carrying his ashes into an art installation that served as a temporary church, which was also scheduled to burn after the "man," The Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

She is among several people who received some of Leary's ashes, some of whom sent what they had to outer space, the outlet said.

"I think he'd be so happy. I think he would have loved the chaos [of Burning Man]. He would have loved it." Sarandon told the outlet. "And all these people honoring him with LSD."
