    Celebrities from the Boston area and farther afield took to social media in the hours immediately following the explosions that rocked the area adjacent to the finish line of the Boston Marathon, Monday.

    New Kids on the Block member Joey McIntyre tweeted from the race, telling followers he was okay. "There was an explosion by the finish line about 5 minutes after I finished- I'm ok but I'm sure there are many hurt," McIntyre tweeted soon after the news of the explosions began to spread. 

    His bandmate, Donnie Wahlberg, had earlier asked his followers to tweet if they'd heard from the singer.  "Going to be off twitter for a while today," Wahlberg announced soon after recieving news that his friend was safe. "Many friends and loved ones to check in on. Please #PrayforBoston and all those impacted by this. ... Check in on all your friends who're fans of Joe Mac. Knowing BH's the way we do, I'm sure some were out to support Joe today. #PrayForBoston."

    Ethan Zohn, who rose to fame as a contestant on both "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race" and was also competing in the race, tweeted: "I'm OK. Most importantly, praying for those injured and affected by this. Still don't have a lot of info. Thanks for your love and concern"

    "My heart and my prayers are in Boston and with everyone affected by this nightmare of an incident," tweeted "The Office" star and Massachusetts native John Krasinksi.

    Musician Pete Wentz simplywrote: "Boston be strong"
