Meet The Band: Tumbleweed Wanderers

Oakland band trips through time on debut album

"You've gotta roll with the times, this ain't '69," croons Oakland's Tumbleweed Wanderers on "Roll With the Times," its sharply gorgeous vocal harmonies and guitar and organ riffs sounding eerily like something straight out of the Summer of Love. The band's own bio is quick to references influences such as Simon and Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young rather than more contemporary acts.

The time-tripping video for "Roll With the Times" finds the quintet (Jeremy Lyon, Zak Mandel-Romann, Patrick Glynn, Daniel Blum, and Rob Fidel) traipsing throughout San Francisco in guises morphing from hippie to hipster. It's one of the most memorable local music videos in recent memory.

Tumbleweed Wanderers celebrates the release of the debut album So Long with a live performance on July 26 at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. It's a short distance but a big upgrade from the group's humble live beginnings last year at SF's only laundromat/live venue, Brainwash Cafe. The band is also known for performing random acoustic sets on the street outside of legendary local spots like the Fillmore and Greek Theatre, making banjos cool again one song at a time.
