SoCal Woman Wins $50K in Doritos Super Bowl Ad Contest

Ladera Ranch resident Amber Gill’s commercial was runner-up in the worldwide contest.

Kids, pets, and a bag of Doritos – who could resist?

That was the winning combination for Ladera Ranch resident Amber Gill, whose 30-second "Cowboy Kid" commercial was one of two winners in the annual Doritos "Crash the Super Bowl" advertising contest.

Gill produced the commercial, which features a young boy dressed as a cowboy, sitting on his pet dog, and using a lasso to capture the bag of Doritos before his older brother gets it.

Gill received a $50,000 prize and the opportunity to work on the set of the sequel to "Marvel's The Avengers," a film that became the third highest-grossing movie of all time, according to a press release on the Frito Lay website.

There were more than 5,400 submissions from 30 countries.

Gill was runner-up to Scottsdale, Ariz. Resident Ryan Andersen, whose commercial received the most fan votes and was awarded a $1 million dollar prize. Both Gill and Andersen will work on the set of the "Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Both Gill's and Andersen's ads aired during the Super Bowl.

The Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest has been held for the past seven years in the U.S. This year, Doritos opened up the contest to aspiring filmmakers worldwide.

Five finalists were invited to attend the Super Bowl. The three finalists who did not win were each awarded $25,000.

The finalists' commercials are posted on the Doritos website.
