Nestlé Purina and Milo's Kitchen are voluntarily recalling some of their dog treat products.
Nestlé Purina is recalling Waggin' Train and Canyon Creek Ranch brand treats and Milo's Kitchen is removing Chicken Jerky and Chicken Grillers home-style dog treats.
The action comes after the New York State Department of Agriculture found trace amounts of antibiotics in samples of the chicken jerky treats from both companies.
The antibiotics found are not approved for use in the United States but are permitted for use in poultry in China and parts of the European Union.
The voluntary recall comes after an NBC Bay Area investigation last summer exposed thousands of complaints to the FDA from pet owners who said chicken jerky treats sickened their dogs.
At the time of the July broadcast, Waggin' Train had the most complaints of illness.

The companies said the trace amount of antibiotics found in the treats do not pose a health risk to pets.
Nestle reports the recall is not related to the FDA's ongoing investigation into chicken jerky treats made in China.
Milo's Kitchen said the recall is because the products were unapproved and should not be present in the final food product.
Waggin' Train president, Nina Leigh Krueger, said in a statement, "Our company and our loyal consumers must have total confidence in the products we sell and feed our pets. Once we understand and determine how to comply with the technicalities of different regulatory frameworks, we will work with all appropriate parties to define the best way to supply the market."
Rob Leibowitz, General Manager of Pet Products, part of Milo's Kitchen, stated, "While there is no known health risk, the presence of even trace amounts of these antibiotics does not meet our high quality standards."
Local
Companies stated consumers who discard the products will receive a refund.
No other treats or pet food products supplied by the companies are affected by this withdrawal.
