12/3: Cirque du San Fran

A cirque special, plus 40 years of Cockettes and the Exploratorium grows up at night

CIRQUE DU SF: Every Thursday the California Academy of the Sciences transforms into an exciting venue for those 21 and up. Tonight a group of performers from OVO, the latest insect-inspired project by Cirque du Soleil, will be there for your entertainment. They're even bringing stilt-walkers. [funcheapSF]

THIS HAS DRAGGED ON FOR 40 YEARS: And we've loved every single minute of it! It has been four decades since the performance, drag and hippie ensemble, the Cockettes, first began shocking us with their glittery shock-fests. In honor of this bold legacy, SF Moma hosts The Cockettes on Film, at 40!, an evening of rare Cockettes films. The curtain lifts at 7 p.m.

EXPLORE AFTER DARK:
The Exploratorium has been known as a kid-friendly destination, but with extended hours on first Thursdays the grown-ups get at turn. This month the creative spot presents Fire + Ice, an exhibit featuring fire sculptures, ice sculptures, cocktails, music, and plenty more. Get chills and burns from 6 to 10 p.m. [7x7]
