1/4: Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble Releases Their 2nd CD

Plus, storefront art installations and a soothing night in Morocco

MOROCCAN CHILL: Mondays are quite stressful already and the first Monday of the new year is surely full of work requirements and the start of ambitious personal journeys. WIth all that calamity, don't forget to add some calm to your day at Industry Night at Morocco's Restaurant in downtown San Jose. Enjoy World beats, soothing sounds, and specials on wines. RSVP at 408-998-1509. [Artsopolis]

WINDOW SHOPPING: Shop windows usually include a few mannequins, basic displays of merchandise, or giant half-naked men in the case of A&F. That's why the Art in Storefronts project is so exciting. The project places original art by San Francisco artists in vacant storefront windows on Taylor St in the Tenderloin, Third St in Bayview, Central Market St and Lower 24th St in the Mission to revitalize areas hit hard by the recession. The exhibit has been up since September and now the event is swiftly drawing to a close- the last day, Feb. 1 will be here soon enough, be sure not to miss this one.

YOUTH IN RHYTHM:
Tonight the Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco celebrates the release of their second CD, Generaciones, featuring the legenday percussionist Armando Peraza and other Bay Area Latin jazz luminaries. 38 musicians ages 13 to 85 perform on this release, representing several generations of artists. The generation gap closes at 8pm at Yoshi's in Oakland.
