Alchemy Collective, a Berkeley coffee cooperative that sells single-drip coffee at the North Oakland Farmers Market on Saturdays, is in the midst of a fundraising campaign. A video and proposal on Kickstarter, a site where the public funds ideas, asks for $10,000 to assist in its plans to operate a sleek, homemade espresso cart daily in the parking lot of Berkeley's BioFuel Oasis.
Alchemy is already set to start selling there on Saturdays, but needs help in securing finances for permits and equipment. The next hopeful phase is a brick and mortar, worker-owned green cafe in downtown Oakland, a concept they think is the first of its kind.
