Long before major labels started actively attempting to poach their bands, Matador imprint True Panther Sounds was a barebones bedroom operation run out of the Mission. And while they might have moved on to join the cool kids in Brooklyn, the tastemakers were here in virtual spirit earlier this month when the city went nuts over the Giants' World Series victory. In honor of the monumental win, label founder and Bay Area native Dean Bein today announced the release of the Finally Champions, a celebratory compilation featuring 21 tracks from across the local music spectrum – chillwave poster child Blackbird Blackbird, witchy producer oOoOO, post-punk shoegazers Weekend, garage-rock favorite Ty Segall, hip hop veteran Young L and much more. The stacked compilation is available to download a single dollar bill, and the proceeds from sales will be donated to the SF Coalition on Homelessness.
