Documentary Chronicles First Woman to Swim From Farallons to Golden Gate Bridge

"Kim Swims" tells the story of Kim Chambers, an open water endurance swimmer who was the first woman to swim solo from the Farallon Islands to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Chambers reached this milestone achievement in August when she swam the nearly 30-mile distance, which, according to the Kickstarter campaign for the documentary film, only four other people have managed.

What makes her story even more extraordinary is that Chambers almost lost her leg in a freak accident in 2008 and was given a 1 percent chance that she would walk without assistance. She began swimming regularly in 2010 as part of her rehabilitation activities.

As of this writing, 235 backers have raised $26,826 of a $35,000 goal that needs to be reached by Nov. 5 in order to be funded.
