Fall Tracking Report: Gitane

With so many new restaurants readying for fall debuts, we're here to keep you updated on the latest from each project, and when you should start thinking about that resy.

Initial Projection: November 2007
Current Projection: November 11, 2008

Union Square: The next step in Franck LeClerc's Claude Alley colonization—he owns Cafe Claude and the upcoming Cinque too— will be Gitane, and the oft-delayed project has finally set an opening date, for now. The space is an eclectic sight in itself: full of design details, a decided European feel, two stories (three if you count the bottom floor), flashy bar area (see renderings) and kitchen on the street level, and a cozy dining room upstairs. Lisa Eyherabide, ere of Piperade, will be handling the Basque-centric menu and because this is San Francisco, there's a wood-burning oven involved. Should you care for further reading, the official site has a thorough recap of Gitane's entire theme, from the Euro-themed 50's to the Big Bling 70's.
