Federal Building's Back, for $121M

50 U.N. Plaza, the federal building behind the Civic Center's Orpheum Theatre, is due to come back after a $121 million stimulus gift that'll fix up the inside and make it all nice and usable again.

The building's been empty since 2007, when federal employees were sent off to the new Thom Mayne-designed federal building on Mission— then a plan for developer Forest City to turn the building into apartments fell through, and here we are.

The building's slated occupant? The Government Services Administration, the agency in charge of federal government buildings. How meta.
