Finally: Balboa Station Clean-Up A Go?

After ten years on the shelf, a plan to transform the superbusy "dreary," "depressing," "unsafe" Balboa Bart Station and surrounding Ingleside area is back on the table. To do: a "shining" metro transit center over Interstate 280 that would consolidate transit transfers into a single location and be easily accessible by foot, bike and car; reshuffling at the Phelan Avenue bus layover loop to create space for new residential and commercial real estate; razing the Kragen Auto Supply in favor of a 30,000 square foot grocery store and 175 new homes; converting a historic office building into a youth center and performance space; plus a new park! All this action, of course, will cost. $10 million has been set aside for the new station, but that probably won't cover it, and the Phelan Loop project alone will probably cost another $10 mill or so. Sorry to get your hopes up again.
