George Lucas Pulls the Plug on Marin County Plans

Fed up with neighbors, legendary filmmaker George Lucas says he is pulling the plug on his proposed Marin County compound.

Fed up with neighbors, legendary filmmaker George Lucas says he is pulling the plug on his proposed Marin County compound.

Instead -- he wants to turn it into low income housing.

Lucasfilm was planning to build a digital production studio on his historic Grady Ranch Farm in Lucas Valley, but the company received opposition.

Despite approval from the Marin County Planning Commission, neighbors opposed it and were worried about its impact on the environment.

Lucas released the following statement.

"We hope we will be able to find a developer who will be interested in low-income housing, since it is scarce in Marin. If everyone feels that housing is less impactful on the land, then we are hoping that people who need it the most will benefit."

The Lucas Valley Homeowners Association says it is surprised by the move.

Lucas says he will build new facilities for Lucasfilm, somewhere else.
