• With a big game happening this weekend, local food sites and blogs are abuzz with news and recipes for cooking sports snacks out of wild game meats. To this discussion Good Taste humbly adds a suggestion: Cook your own kangaroo burgers for Sunday's 49ers battle. Seni Felk, the proprietor of SF Grill, sells gorgeously lean and flavorful kangaroo patties on Saturdays at the Fillmore Farmers' Market. Impress/fool your friends and loved ones with something radically different, but surprisingly close to what you're already used to in a burger.
• Fans of the many Bay Area locations of Max's restaurants should know that owner Dennis Berkowitz has a brand new venture on the Peninsula. Vault 164 has taken over the beautiful Crocker Bank building at the corner of Second and B Streets in San Mateo, serving lunch and dinner. The menu, which centers on American cooking, is broad and even includes some Max's-leaning deli sandwiches during the day, and plenty of steak at night.
• Macworld is due to hit San Francisco's Moscone Center next week, and while the focus won't be on food, one company is going to be pushing the crossover. Among the dizzying array of exhibitors, Intoxicase will be in town touting its new combination iPhone case/bottle openers. Good Taste will be keeping an eye out for more sensible uses of food and technology at the convention (perhaps an iPhone case that sports a spork?), which begins on January 26.
