Green Day Scores Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction

Band to be officially honored in 2015

Green Day will soon join rock's immortals.

The Bay Area band with a 25-year recorded history will be a 2015 inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its first year of eligibility. Other acts being honored are Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bill Withers, Lou Reed and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

"The fact that we kept on hanging on to this thing we believe in for so many years is incredible," frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells Rolling Stone. "It's unique that we started so young. It's almost freakish. We were weird little kids. We got to be weird together and create this thing called Green Day for so many years. . . Literally, what a strange trip."

Winners will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in April 2015.
