Ten years in the making, and the South of Market Health Center's Westbrook Plaza is finally going up this Thursday, November 6. The mixed-use complex at 255 7th Street will be home to 20,000 square feet of community health center, 49 units of affordable housing, a community center, pharmacy and underground parking garage. The whole production will cost $12 million, $4.5 million of which is coming from the City Redevelopment Agency, and the rest from private fundraising and foundation grants. They plan to have the two buildings up by next spring, which does sound ambitious, amid this spate of halted construction city-wide -- but perhaps those foundation grants are recession-proof...
