Melissa Colorado joined NBC Bay Area in April 2018 as a reporter after spending more than 4 years working in Minnesota. Melissa mainly covers the East Bay in the afternoon editions of NBC Bay Area News which air Monday to Sunday at 5 PM, 6 PM and 11PM. In addition, she also reports for NBC Bay Area’s sister station, Telemundo 48 Area de La Bahia / KSTS, as well as for the stations digital platforms.
Melissa comes to NBC Bay Area from KARE-TV in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she covered a number of high profile stories including the fatal 2016 police shooting of Philando Castile, the death of Prince and Super Bowl LII. Before this, she worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico at KOAT-TV as a general assignment reporter. She has also worked in the New York market as a reporter for 24/7 cable channel News 12 and at WPIX-TV.
Melissa is a New York City native, born and raised in Queens. She is fluent in Spanish and swears she can understand any thick accent thanks to years of subway riding. When she’s not reporting she enjoys running around Lake Merritt or going on hikes with her rescue dog Sota.
Melissa earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Brooklyn College.
