Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have already launched a high-fashion line, a mid-price clothing line—not to mention shoes, eyewear and jewelry—but their latest venture takes its cue from a book-of-the-month club model of e-commerce: Stylemint.com.
The subscription-based shopping site melds e-commerce and social media platforms offering members a personalized shopping experience. Right now, the site carries an Olsen-designed collection of t-shirts—a smart move considering the popularity of tees in their other venture, The Row. (Eventually they hope to add knits and sweaters to the mix.)
Each month, you'll have the option of snatching up one of the exclusive tees ($29.99), plus, you'll get advice on what to wear with it. Recommendations are based on style quizzes ("Are you more H&M or Neiman Marcus?" "Sexy, spikey stiletto or sensible flat?"), and will get more specific the more you shop on the site.
Stylemint.com falls under the umbrella of the Santa Monica-based company, BeachMint Inc, founded by Josh Berman, one of the original founders of MySpace. JewelMint, a jewelry-of-the-month club created in partnership with Kate Bosworth and her stylist Cher Coulter was the first fashion launch for company in October 2010. Consider this just the beginning for BeachMint—they expect to launch several new sites over the next two years in a number of categories including beauty, footwear, home and wellness.
