After over a year of rumors and dire predictions for the worst, the long feared Dolores Park renovation officially broke ground over the weekend. And while the doomsday-style complete park shut down thankfully never came to fruition, the move does mean folks will temporarily lose access to the bulk of the south-east end of the park -- read: no more PBR-fueled swingset sessions, dips in the notorious makeshift DP pond or use of the park's few dedicated picnic areas. Cruise over to sfrecpark.org for a full breakdown on the current closure and ongoing $7.9 Million renovation project, which is expected to last through early 2012. Hat tip to the always reliable folks at Uptown Almanac for the photographic evidence of the clearly scalable fence.
