Planning to Overnight in San Francisco? It's Going to Cost You!

Staying in a San Francisco Hotel is going to get more expensive.
Supervisors approved a special hotel room tax yesterday that will fund capital projects at the Moscone Center and will also help the convention and visitors bureau market San Francisco as a travel destination.
A $200 hotel room will increase by $3 around the Moscone Center and $2 elsewhere in the city.
As of August, the average nightly rate for a hotel in San Francisco was $186.51 with another $26 for the current hotel tax rate of 14 percent.
Mayor Gavin Newsom supports the new tax, which goes into effect Jan. 1, noting that tourism is San Francisco's top industry.
