So Much For That: Gav Nixes Nabe Police Patrols

Another blow to the neighborhood. Hopes were high coming off the sweeping, unprecedented report recommending changing for improving the city police department -- just leave it to The Mayor Newsom to dash them. Gavin says he "couldn't be more pleased with the report" and its findings (perhaps because public opinion is so for it?). But with the city budget hurting, Gav says there's not even close to the $41 million needed to increase much-needed foot patrols and community policing city-wide (of course, the controller's office estimated the cost at about $30 mill). No word on whether the city might implement some of the recommendations, or perhaps patrols in more troubled areas. But probably not if their budget deficit has anything to say about it.
