Supes Slap a High Price On Blight Clean-Up

Attention owners of city eyesores: the legislation to curb blight in San Francisco has passed the Board of Supervisors with flying colors. Those properties that become "an attractive nuisance for various illegal crimes" are now subject to hefty fines for blight violations. The Supes upped the cap on the penalties to $1,000 over the $500 originally proposed by the Land Use Committee. If left to languish in squalor, the city can also take it upon itself to clean that shit up and bill the owner for the work at their discretion. Potential offenders: dead trees, worn-off paint, debris, deterioration of exterior stairs and/or broken windows. Unclear as of yet: whether this will make any sort of significant difference in particularly nasty stretches of the Mission, Ocean View and Ingleside.
