We're not quite sure what exactly is entailed on the international sushi competition circuit, but Mitsunori Kusakabe, the executive chef at Sausalito's Michelin-starred Sushi Ran, took home the award for the world's Sushi of the Year (or something along those lines) with an impressive-sounding creation: "Osaka-born Mitsunori Kusakabe triumphed with his Seven Rice Samurai dish, featuring the fermentation, frying, toasting, sauteing, roasting, freezing and extraction of rice. Other ingredients included sake, dried bonito shavings, kelp, dried pickled plum, white sesame, lemon and frozen raw wasabi." [Bloomberg]For more stories from Eater SF, go to sf.eater.com.
