What You're Doing Tonight: Feb. 5

Indy flicks, cartoons galore and Frida Kahlo

The 11th annual San Francisco Independent Film Festival kicks off tonight with the local premiere of "Somers Town." The after party will go down at CellSpace and feature performances by DJ Toph One, Live Evil and The Extra Action Marching Band. The festival runs Feb 5 to 22 at the Roxie, Victoria and Shattuck Theaters. For more information visit the SF Indy Theater on line.

You're never too old for cartoons. Check out this new exhibit that breaks down the evolution of cartoon art in its various forms, which includes work by the major cartoonists of the 20th century. Can you say Matt Groening? Check out the exhibit at the Cartoon Art Museum at 655 Mission St. in San Francisco.

Too sophisticated for cartoons? Respect. We still got you covered. How about peeping 45 paintings by the legendary Frida Kahlo. No Salma Hayek will not be there, at least we don't think so, but the originalm prints are pretty awesome anyway. Check it out at the San Jose Museum of Art, 110 S. Market St.
