Get a sneak peek of SF-headquartered denim maven Levi Strauss' latest line of 511 jeans and jackets, aptly dubbed the "Commuter Series" and marketed toward the growing brigade of bike commuters in the city. The new series of utilitarian denim will debut in Levi's stores this weekend with a launch party for the line at Box Dog Bike Shop (with a showcase of customized Levi's trucker commuter jackets created in collaboration with Zeiggiest Race, Godspeed Courier and All Hail The Black Market).
So what exactly makes these wears so San Francisco "commuter" friendly? For one, they were produced solely based on the feedback they received from the cyclists themselves. They then applied cutting-edge technical functionality with all kinds of subtle details like the Commuter jacket's angled front pockets for easy access, extra mobility-adding fabric in the underarms, water and dirt resistant material, and reflective accents to aid visibility while riding. For the bottoms, Levi's added a loop in the waistband specially designed to hold your u-lock, a rear pocket for an iPhone or iPod (strategically placed so it won't fall out), and reflective accents on the inner seams for added visibility when you cuff your pants for the ride.
