A woman was found fatally shot near a parked car in San Jose Monday night, police Officer Jermaine Thomas said.
Residents reported hearing several gunshots in the area of the 2000 block of Southwest Expressway around 10:30 p.m., Thomas said.
Arriving officers found a woman near a car parked on the side of the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thomas said an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
"It's still unclear if the victim was inside or outside the vehicle" when she was shot, Thomas said.
The car was parked near homes on Southwest Expressway. The other side of the street is light rail tracks, according to Thomas.
Police do not believe the shooting was gang-related, Thomas said.
