World's Largest Swimming Lesson Today

A swimming academy in Dublin is one of more than 100 aquatic  facilities around the world that are participating in what is being called  "The World's Largest Swimming Lesson" on Thursday.

The swimming lesson is being presented by a coalition of the  nation's leading water safety and training organizations as a way of focusing  attention on the importance of teaching children to swim.

Organizers hope participants in the event will set an  international Guinness World Record.

Organizers say that drowning is the second leading cause of  unintended injury-related deaths for children between the ages of 1 and 14  and research shows that if children don't learn to swim before the third  grade they likely never will.

The host location in Dublin is the American Swim Academy at 6948  Sierra Court. The local lesson will start at 7 a.m.

The huge swimming lesson at pools and water parks around the globe  is part of National Water Safety Month.
