Fire Burns Home in Oakland

Oakland House Fire

Firefighters on Wednesday battled a one-alarm fire at a house in a residential area on Martin Luther King near 29th Street.

Smoke and flames were pouring out of the two-story home when firefighters arrived around 4 a.m. Firemen said they had a hard time getting a handle on the flame so they took a defensive position.

It took firefighters about two hours to contain the blaze.

Crews are keeping an eye out for hot spots and they're assessing the situation to see if it's safe inside the house.

Much of the roof was burned way, one person was living in the house and escaped without injury.
