San Francisco police are laying down the law for the Zazzle Bay to Breakers Race on Sunday.
This year's race marks the 101st anniversary of of one of the world's best-loved sporting and celebratory events.
More than ever, city officials and race organizers are serious about keeping the race from turning into an out-of-control street party.
That means a zero tolerance policy towards alcohol, a ban on floats and an earlier-than-usual start time of 7 a.m.
Those rules went into effect last year, as a result of the 2010 race. That year, 26 people were taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning and, as in other years, neighbors complained of revelers vomiting and urinating on their stoops and front yards.
To emphasize the point of fun without the frenzy, a special campaign website is active at www.baytobreakers100.com with public transit information, rules and regulations, video PSAs and links to social media sites stressing this year's campaign.
