Oakland PD Warns of Craigslist Robbers

Scam starts with vehicle for sale, ends with robbery at gunpoint.

The Oakland PD released a statement today to make the public aware of a series of armed robberies involving Craigslist and a vehicle for sale.

The ads advertise a vehicle for sale outside of Oakland, but then at the last minute, the seller changes the meet-up location to an upper area of Lake Merrit, near freeway 580 and Harrison St, the report said.

After the interested buyer shows up at the location, he or she is is approached and robbed at gunpoint by two to five African American males.

The report says this activity has been going on since December.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oakland Police Department Major Crimes Section Investigators at (510) 238-3475.

The Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for these crimes.
