Tire Iron Used in Monday Night Muni Brawl

Blunt weapon employed in bus fight.

A brawl that broke out on a 49 Van Ness San Francisco Municipal Railway bus culminated with a 25-year old man being struck on the head with a tire on, according to reports.

The bus was traveling near 22nd and Mission streets on Monday at about 9:48 p.m. when the fight broke out, according to the San Francisco Appeal.

Two groups of juveniles were at odds with one another. The fight ended with the 25-year old hit on the head with what police believe was a tire iron, the newspaper reported.

The victim is at San Francisco General Hospital as of Tuesday morning. No arrests have been made and no suspect information is available.

Initial reports indicated that shots were fired on the bus, but police stressed that no firearm use is suspected.

The incident is the second assault on a Muni bus in about a 24-hour span, the newspaper reported. On Sunday night, two people were shot on a 14 Mission line bus near Valencia Street.
