Don't underestimate the value of a pretty face and well-fitting clothes.
It turns out that attractive people earn about 5 percent more than their average-looking colleagues, according to research published in the Journal of Labor Economics.
In turn, average people earn about 9 percent more than plain-looking people.
The study doesn't say why that is, however, it says confidence makes up at least 20 percent of perceived attractiveness and at least one company executive says he prefers to hire the so-called "visual underdog."
