San Francisco Restaurant Workers Among Best Paid in U.S.

Restaurant workers in San Francisco might enjoy some of the highest pay rates in the nation, according to one study.

A PayScale survey of 15,000 restaurant workers across the United States shows that San Francisco averages the highest hourly wages in the country for servers and bartenders, reports San Francisco Business Times.

Servers in San Francisco reported the highest median hourly income at $21.50, with an additional average of $13 per hour in tips. Bartenders reported the highest average tips per hour at $15.50, which is on top of $11 an hour in wages, the second highest in the country to Portland, Oregon.

One area where San Francisco did not come out on top is with chefs and cooks, with reports of $13.30 per hour in wages and $1 per hour in tips. Boston leads that category with a reported average hourly base pay of $14.40 per hour and 80 cents per hour in tips.
