California Health Department Lifts Dungeness Crab Advisory

Recreational Dungeness crab fishermen in the Bay Area are getting the green light from the state health department.

Health officials announced they’ve decided to lift their advisory for the crabs – but not for commercial fisherman.

The officials say new test results show that traces of domoic acid caused by algae are low or undetectable.

The advisory is lifted for crabs caught near Monterey, Half Moon Bay, San Francisco and Point Reyes.

The commercial crab fishing industry has seen major financial losses because of the toxic algae.
