“It Could Have Been Me”: SoCal Hosts Boston Charity Run

A week after twin bombs tore through the crowd at the Boston Marathon, runners in Southern California are banding together to show solidarity - and collect donations - for the victims of the terrorist attack.

The social media-driven #bostonstrongLA run is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Rose Avenue and Ocean Front Walk in Venice Beach (map). Runners will be able to run any distance they want. NBC4 is supporting the event, which will benefit The One Fund Boston.

The group's Facebook page says that the run is "a way for us to unite and do what we do best: run. A run for those that were unable to finish. A run for those that may never run again. A run for us to try and make sense of the tragedy that has forever changed something we love."

Co-organizers Rya Levin and Ben Ashbrook said they decided to coordinate the event to show solidarity with runners across the country.

"I just felt completely devastated, that it could have been me, it could have been my family, and I just had to do something," Levin told NBC4.

NBC4 Morning Anchor Alycia Lane, who was at the Boston Marathon when the bombs went off, discovered the fundraiser and decided to participate.
