Standoff Involving Cross-County Chase Suspect Ends, Suspect Taken Into Custody

A driver led San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers on a pursuit through the North County Thursday.

A man that led a pursuit through the North County in an hours-long standoff faces charges of felony evading.

The suspect was already wanted for assault on a San Diego County Sheriff’s (SDSO) Deputy in September, who has since been recovering.

Oscar Daniel Cedillo, 34, was booked into the Vista Detention Facility at about 9 p.m. Thursday, on multiple felony charges of evading police, attempting to assault police and fleeing authorities on a highway against the flow of traffic, according to SDSO.

The chase began just after 9 a.m. Within two hours, Cedillo had crossed the county west to east and launched a standoff with law enforcement officers at Pala Mission and Pala Temecula roads.

The standoff ended shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

During the chase, the Cedillo ran red lights and traveled at speeds up to 70 mph on surface streets and highways including Interstate 5 and State Route 78, CHP officials said.

A spike trip was used to deployed near Valley Center and Cole Grade roads but Cedillo continued to drive even after one of the tires on the vehicle became disabled. CHP officers deployed another spike strip near Pala Mission Road and were able to successfully stop the vehicle.

Several law enforcement vehicles have the vehicle surrounded just across from the Pala Fire Department.

Cedillo refused to leave the vehicle and threatened to harm himself during the standoff, officials told NBC 7.

Just after 3 p.m., he was taken into custody by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The incident that led to the pursuit involved a Vista station SDSO deputy near John Landes Park along the border between Oceanside and Vista, according to Oceanside Police PIO Lt. Taurino Valdovinos.

The exact location of the incident was unclear but Valdovinos said it occurred a few weeks ago.
