Wildfire Shuts Down Interstate 80 Near Truckee

A wildfire burning 12 miles northeast of Truckee has shut down both directions of Interstate 80 Tuesday morning, according to officials.

The blaze, coined the Farad Fire, has torched 600 acres and is five percent contained as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Cal Fire. 

Westbound I-80 is closed at the California-Nevada state line, according to the California Highway Patrol. Eastbound I-80 is closed at State Route 267. Officials do not know when the interstate will be able to be reopened.

The roadway has been closed off-and-on since the fire started Monday afternoon.

Drivers are encouraged to use Mount Rose Highway as an alternate route around the blaze.

No evacuation orders are in effect at this time.
