Five Farm Workers Killed in Car Crash East of Stockton

Five farm workers were killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash along Highway 4 east of Stockton in San Joaquin County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Earlier, the CHP reported that four people had died, but a fifth personal died at the hospital. The workers were in a van carrying a total of six people when it smashed into a pickup about 6:50 a.m.

The farmworkers' van, which had a total of six people, crashed into a pickup at the intersection of Van Allen Road and Highway 4 at 6:50 a.m, the CHP told sister station KCRA in Sacramento.

The people inside the car were farm workers, an officer with the Stockton CHP said. No one other than the driver was wearing seat belts in the van, the CHP said.

The two people in the pickup were also taken to the hospital.

Conditions in the area were foggy at the time of the crash, but the official cause has not yet been determined.

This multiple fatality follows on the heels of another tragedy not too far away in Sacramento County, where four died and two were injured in a two-car crash on Christmas Day.
