Woman Arrested in Hit-and-Run Crash That Injured Family Members, Killed Dog

Family members said the driver stopped, then accelerated as they walked across an intersection

A suspect was arrested Monday in a hit-and-run crash that injured family members, including a 4-month-old girl, and killed their dog, police said.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Tiffani Monique Lowden, of Whittier. She was arrested late Monday night after surrendering at the police station and jailed on $50,000 bail, according to jail records.

She was scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Wednesday morning, but the district attorney's office said the case requires more investigation. Lowden was released from custody Wednesday morning.

"I'm a good Christian girl, I really am," Lowden, who has not been charged in the case, said as she was released from custody. "I had to do what's right."

She declined to go into details about the crash.

The arrest came a day after Alexandra Hollon and her husband, Bryan, were crossing a South Pasadena street with their 4-month-old daughter when they were struck by a sport utility vehicle driver. Family members said the driver accelerated toward them in an act that "almost felt intentional."

Police said tips started pouring in shortly after the first media reports went out. Both police and the family credited the public's response for the rapid turn of events.

"She did the right thing," Bryan Hollon said of the suspect turning herself in. "She took responsibility for her actions."

South Pasadena Police Chief Art Miller said one of the tips that poured in after media reports led to Lowden.

"A family member made contact with her and convinced her last night would be a good time to turn herself in," he said.

She identified herself at the station and said she was the person responsible for the hit and run, Miller said. She did not explain what happened, Miller said. Police learned she later parked her Nissan Rogue on a street in West LA, damaged where police expected.

"It coincides with the account that each one of the victims had as they were thrown onto the hood and then into the street," Miller said.

The family was thankful for all the support.

"We've been blown away by the outpouring of love," Alexandra Hollon said.

But they still can't understand why the driver left the scene.

"We were just left there on the pavement, bleeding," Byran Hollon said. "And she drove away from that."

Lowden's attorney did not return a call seeking comment.
