The San Francisco-based Latino Community Foundation has reactivated its NorCal Wildfire Relief Fund to help North Bay farmworkers affected by the Kincade Fire burning through Sonoma County.
A Sonoma County Farmworker Health Survey published four years ago this month found that 95 percent of the county's farmworkers reported being Latino or Hispanic.
"The Kincade Fire has hit during harvest season in Wine Country - a critical time for our farmworker communities. The fire is displacing these hard working families and destroying homes and jobs," LCF chief executive officer Jacqueline Martinez Garcel said.
LCF, which raised previously raised $1.5 million for recovery efforts after the 2017 North Bay wildfires, is investing in two companies on the front lines of response to people affected by the fires: Nuestra Comunidad and Corazon Healdsburg.
Nuestra Comunidad supports families with emergency translation services, resource referrals and housing assistance, while Corazon Healdsburg is helping families with relocation.
