A pursuit that began in Orange County Wednesday with a 911 report from another driver moved into Los Angeles County and through downtown LA at slow speeds before ending with a spinout on a Pasadena street.
The pursuit began on the 55 Freeway in Orange County with a 911 call regarding an erratic driver in a black sport utility vehicle. The pursuit moved north into southern Los Angeles County on the 405 Freeway and then past downtown Los Angeles on the 110 Freeway.
By 1 p.m., the driver entered the Pasadena area on the 110 Freeway and exited at Arroyo Seco Parkway. Officers got out of their patrol vehicles when the woman stopped at two traffic lights, but she continued driving through the business district both times and officers returned to their vehicles to continue the pursuit.
A few blocks later on Green Street, an officer caused the SUV to spin with a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver -- tapping the SUVs rear bumper to send the vehicle into a lazy spin. The woman exited the vehicle, which would up facing the wrong way, with her hands raised before an officer took her into custody.
CHP Officer Edgar Figueroa said the driver, possibly a DUI driver, appeared to be weaving back and forth did not reach excessive speeds. Authorities are attempting to determine whether alcohol consumption or drugs were factors in the woman's behavior, according to the CHP.
