Series of Earthquakes Felt in Julian, Other Parts of County

Residents across San Diego County reported feeling the tremors after a series of earthquakes were recorded in Julian Wednesday evening.

The first tremblings were felt at about 4:30 p.m. in several parts of the county, including Julian, Encinitas, Rancho Bernardo, Spring Valley and Jamul.

Many who felt the first quake described it as a jolt to NBC 7.

One man shopping at a Barons Market in the East County said he thought a truck had crashed into the back of the store.

Kimberly Atherton, an employee at the store, said she also thought it was a crash. She had been standing in the beer aisle inside the store when she felt the quake.

"I just got home, I got out of my car and I thought, you know, something is strange here. I thought maybe, ‘Am I dizzy?’ and that’s all I felt," said shopper Dave Quezada.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) first recorded a magnitude 2.6 quake at 4:29 p.m. followed shortly by a magnitude 4.0.

A few smaller temblors were recorded before a larger 3.8 magnitude quake was reported just before 8:00 p.m.

At this time, there are no reports of injuries or damage.
