Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Allegedly Attacking Woman on Irvine Trail

The woman, who was knocked down, was then beaten by the suspect until witnesses intervened and stopped him, police alleged.

Attempted murder and other felony charges were filed Tuesday against a 28-year-old man charged with attacking a woman on a trail in Irvine.

The 30-year-old victim was walking on a trail near Jeffrey Road and Irvine Boulevard about 10 p.m. Saturday when she collided with Tyler Glenn Collier, who was riding a bicycle, according to Kim Mohr of the Irvine Police Department.

"Whether he hit her on purpose or not'' is undetermined, Mohr said.

The woman, who was knocked down, was then beaten by the suspect until witnesses intervened and stopped him, Mohr alleged.

Collier was arrested at the scene, she said.

Collier, who's being held on $500,000 bail, is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment and battery with serious bodily injury, with sentencing enhancement allegations of inflicting great bodily injury.

The woman, whose name was withheld, was taken to an area hospital, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, Mohr said.

Police were looking for additional witnesses or video from area home surveillance cameras, Mohr said. Anyone with information helpful to the investigation was asked to call detectives at 949-724-7168.
