Parolee Leads Police on Beach Car Chase, Runs Into Ocean Before Arrest

The man led officers along the coast at Oceano Dunes state beach, leaving families and children dashing for safety.

A 38-year-old parolee from California has been taken into police custody after leading officers on a vehicle pursuit along the Pacific coast.

The Los Angeles Times reports Joshua Anthony Jordan was arrested at gunpoint Wednesday after his Lexus got stuck in beach sand and he ran into the ocean south of San Luis Obispo.

The chase began when Jordan fled a deputy who attempted to pull his vehicle over. It was called off when Jordan entered a freeway going the wrong way, but was back on when Jordan's vehicle was spotted again about an hour and 15 minutes later.

Jordan then led officers along the coast at Oceano Dunes state beach, leaving families and children dashing for safety.

"Jordan was arrested on suspicion of felony willful cruelty to a child with possible injury or death and evading a police officer in a reckless manner," the newspaper reported.
