Undercover Officers Working Prostitution Sting Capture Pursuit Driver

The driver ran from the vehicle near a San Fernando Valley hotel and encountered the undercover officers

A driver who led police on a high-speed pursuit through the west San Fernando Valley Wednesday night was arrested after running from the car and into the custody of undercover officers working a prostitution sting at a hotel.

The pursuit involving the driver of a late-model Dodge Challenger began about 10 p.m. after officers responded to a report near Tampa Avenue and the Ventura (101) Freeway in Tarzana.

"The call involved a man who was circling an area looking at a lone female," said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Mike Stewart. "Then, of course, we had his reckless driving once the officers tried to
make a traffic stop."

The driver fled east into Sherman Oaks during the 10-minute pursuit that came to an end outside the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on busy Ventura Boulevard near Sepulveda Boulevard. The driver, wearing black overalls, sprinted from the car and was apprehended by undercover officers and bystanders.

The man faces charges of felony evading. Police are attempting to determine whether the car was stolen, Stewart said.
