A potentially record-breaking heat wave continues to punish Southern California as temperatures are expected to reach triple digits in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles County valley areas this weekend.
Very weak onshore flow was helping to create a dome of heat around the Southland, with no clouds to protect from the scorching sun.
“What that means is that we’re going to see very little in the way of cooling,” NBC4’s Elita Loresca said. “Dry conditions, extremely hot out there.”
Temperatures were expected to reach as high as 105 degrees in the Inland Empire and valleys. Downtown Los Angeles will hit the low 90s.
An excessive heat warning was placed for the Los Angeles County valleys and Santa Monica Mountains.
Dangerously hot weather is expected through 7 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.
A red-flag warning was also in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Southern California residents were advised to drink plenty of water, stay indoors and use air conditioning if possible.
Weather officials said the heat wave is expected to taper off by Tuesday.
