A man who allegedly tried to rob an off-duty sheriff's deputy and his family at a Riverside mall ended up getting shot and later arrested, police said Sunday.
Multiple callers reported hearing shots being fired at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot for the Galleria at Tyler, the Riverside City police Officer Ryan Railsback said.
The alleged would-be robber confronted the off-duty deputy and his family as they were leaving the mall and demanded their belongings at gunpoint, according to Railsback.
"This attempted armed robbery resulted in a deputy-involved shooting," he said.
However, it's not clear who pulled the trigger.
The suspected robber suffered gunshot wounds then fled the scene in a vehicle and drove to a hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, Railsback said.
Officers later arrived at the hospital and arrested him on suspicion of attempted robbery, according to police.
