Robbers Use Sledgehammer to Smash Way Into Jewelry Store

Robbers used a sledgehammer to smash their way into a jewelry store before making off with loot in La Verne early Thursday.

The two thieves were inside Micky’s Jewelry Studio on the 2200 block of Foothill Boulevard for less than a minute during the 1 a.m break-in, a La Verne Police Department spokesman said. Police arrived just three minutes after the alarm was tripped, but the raiders had already left the scene.

They only managed to steal some silver items during the burglary, despite more expensive diamond items being on display. One of the robbers wore a white hazmat suit, while the other covered his face with a hoodie and a bandana.

After the raid they sped off in a two-door white van. The business was closed and no one was inside during the raid.

The store was previously broken into last year, and the owners say they are planning to install new security measures.
