One Person Shot at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, Police Say

A shooting Monday that left one person hospitalized forced a lockdown at a mall in Torrance and a response from SWAT members.

The shooting occurred in the 3500 block of Carson Street at Del Amo Fashion Center just before 3 p.m., Torrance police said. The shooter was described as a 20- to 25-year-old with a shaved head, wearing a black shirt and checkered shorts.

At least one person was shot, the Torrance Police Department said. There were no additional known shooting victims, according to police.

The Torrance Fire Department confirmed that it was responding to the report of a shooting at the mall and said that one person was taken to a hospital.

The mall was on lockdown and the shooting occurred in front of the Finish Line store, mall security said.

Madrona Middle School, which is located close to the mall, said that the school was on lockdown as of 3:12 p.m. and was asking parents to stay away until further notice. The school said it would send out an alert to parents on when and where to pick up their children.

Around 5 p.m., groups of people were being released from various businesses at Del Amo Fashion Center. A large group of people came out of the entrance to the mall closest to Madrona Avenue.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., police arrived at Madrona Middle School, and students appeared to be released to parents.

Police continued to go store-to-store and business-to-business searching the mall, but the shooter was not immediately located.
